Brake Relining Process
Dover Brake relines over 35,000 shoes a year. Our highly trained employees ensure that shoes and linings are prepared, fitted, and riveted to the highest quality standards. Below is a step-by-step process of how we reline brake shoes. For any questions or comments, contact us today.

First the old core or shoe is brought in with the old lining still intact. Here we see a pallet of old shoes just off the truck.

Old Brake Shoes

The next step is to remove the old lining of the core. This is done here with an Air Punch, it also can be done with a Stripper machine.

Next the core is water blasted with hot water and soap to remove the grease and oil.

The shoe core is then sandblasted in a Steel Shot Blaster machine.

Sandblasted Brake Shoes

After the shoe core is sandblasted it is then dipped in a rust inhibitor paint. After drying they will look like this.

Painted Brake Shoe before relining

The painted core is then checked for any inconsistencies. If everything looks good the shoe is then relined with the appropriate lining. This is done using our rivet machine which produces the finished product.
